This website records the development of a partnership between Cambridgeshire Bird Club and Oursi Bird Club, at Lake Oursi in Burkino Faso, Africa. We will post regular updates about bird movements and also about partnership activities. We hope you will enjoy reading the blog and begin to realise the importance of international conservation efforts to help species, such as Black-tailed Godwit, that spend the winter at Lake Oursi.

Welcome
Many of our birds in Cambridgeshire migrate south in autumn to spend the winter in Africa, building a natural link for birds and birdwatchers between Europe and Africa. Burkina Faso is a sub-Sahelian country which harbours many European birds, and even a number of birds ringed in Cambridgeshire have been recovered in this African nation.
Lake Oursi is one of only ten Important Bird Areas (IBA) in Burkina Faso, located in the very dry north close to the borders with Niger and Mali (See Google Map and a PDF Map). This site, made up of a series of lakes interspersed with sand-dunes, grassland and stands of trees, is very important for wetland birds.
We hope to regularly exchange information with the Oursi Bird Club and let our members know when birds from Europe arrive, how the numbers of typical ‘Cambridgeshire birds’ such as the Black-tailed Godwit are doing at Oursi, what other species do occur there etc.
